Unsightly

I think all of us have felt insufficient at some point.

It’s manufactured people in a make-believe world
Chiseled muscles for the boys, pretty dresses for the girls
And while I’d love to meet ’em, I don’t quite measure up
Too many crooked teeth in the mirror, too many inches on the gut

And I’m torn between, living a life that is just a dream
And seeing, this world for what it is

Unsightly, does no one want to look at me
Staring right back at them while they’re at the gym watching their little screens
Unsightly, am I better heard and never seen
Don’t make me rue the day I thought to pray that you could meet me in between

Cause what we have is beautiful, even if I’m not
We’ve unlocked our imaginations, given oasis to our thoughts
Some may call it picture perfect, if you don’t hazard a glance too close
Or you’ll see the sausage being made and the bumps along my nose

And I’m torn between, living a life that is just a dream
And seeing, this world for what it is

Unsightly, does no one want to look at me
Looking right down in their eyes, up from twelve foot high, shinin’ on that silver screen
Unsightly, am I better heard and never seen
Don’t make me rue the day I began to pray that you could meet me in between

Where I hear a harbor, for those who long for, brighter days
And a brand new season, where rhyme and reason, are well-received, and here to stay

It’s manufactured people in a make-believe world
I said it’s manufactured people in a make-believe world

Unsightly, does no one want to look at me
Smiling right back in their face, when they’re stuck at their place, watching their big TVs
Unsightly, am I better heard and never seen
Don’t make me rue the day I got brave to say you could meet me in between

You could meet me in between
